Heroes for Children Golf Tournament to Take Place in Allen June 26th

The annual summer golf tournament Heroes for Children will take place on Friday, June 26^th from noon until 4:00 pm. The annual tournament, which charges $60 for participants under 18 and $150 for participants 18 and older, is used to raise money for families affected by childhood cancer.

The non-profit Heroes for Children organization provides financial and social assistance to families who are dealing with childhood cancer. Formed in 2005, the organization has raised more than $5 million and has helped over 4,200 families with children between the ages of zero and 22 who are battling the disease. The average grant provided per family is $750 with the goal being to alleviate some of the financial pressure these families are facing. Often, the funds are used by families to help pay their mortgage or to pay for travel expenses as they go to and from the hospital with their children.

The organization also strives to provide normalcy in the lives of childhood cancer victims and their families through social assistance programs. Social assistance programs currently offered by the organization include:

• Laptops for Love: Donates new laptops to teenagers who are battling cancer, thereby allowing them to keep up with their school work while maintaining a link to the outside world as they undergo treatments. The organization provided 569 laptops to teenagers between January 2005 and December 2013.
• Heroes Milestones: Provides celebrations for milestone events that may have gone uncelebrated due to cancer diagnosis and treatment, such as providing birthday parties, graduation celebrations, proms and Celebration of Life parties for terminal children.
• Holiday Heroes: Provides holiday gifts, decorations and other items for cancer families. In 2013, the program provided holiday celebrations to 83 families throughout Texas. Families were selected by social workers at the hospitals served by the Heroes for Children program.

Heroes for Children also sponsors the Beads of Courage campaign, which is utilized in seven hospitals throughout the state. The Beads of Courage program is meant to help children restore a sense of self while also developing positive coping strategies. The intervention program is also meant to provide support and strength to the families affected by childhood cancer.

Raising Funds for Heroes for Children at TopGolf Allen

All proceed from the Heroes for Children golf tournament go toward helping the organization provide its services to families with children battling cancer. The event will take place at Topgolf Allen, which is a golf entertainment complex with a unique twist on the sport of golf. The facility also features an extensive food and beverage menu, pool tables, interactive video games and giant Jenga. Topgolf Allen is located at 1500 Andrews Parkway in Allen, Texas.
