Shakespeare Dallas Summer Camp Offers Opportunities for Children to Explore Live Theatre

The Downtown Dallas Public Library will be hosting an exciting summer camp for children who want to learn more about Shakespeare and his works. In addition to learning more about the Bard, those who participate in the summer camp will also have the opportunity to explore the exciting arts of acting and improvisation as they make new friends and strengthen bonds that already exist.

Enjoy All Things Shakespeare at the Shakespeare Dallas Summer Camp

At Shakespeare Dallas, participants learn more about Shakespeare as well as the art of acting. During the camp, participants will learn the basics of acting as they focus on Shakespeare and his works. They will also develop their skills in the areas of voice work, movement and improvisation as they create characters and perform scenes from the great Bard’s plays.

In addition to honing their acting skills, participants in the Shakespeare Dallas Summer Camp will also explore the history surrounding the plays while also learning more about Shakespeare and his life. As such, the goal is to help cultivate an appreciation for live theatre and performances while also gaining a better understanding of Shakespeare and his works.

While participants will perform scenes from Shakespeare’s plays, they will also produce a full performance from beginning to end. Friends and family will be invited to see the performance at Samuell Grand Amphitheater prior to a production of Shakespeare in the Park.

The Shakespeare Dallas summer camp takes place from July 6th through July 17th from 10:00 am until noon each day. The program is open to children between the ages of eight and fourteen. The camp will take place at the Downtown Public Library located at 1515 Young Street in Dallas. The fee to participate in the program is $195 per child, though sibling discounts are available.

Taking a Closer Look at Shakespeare Dallas

Founded in 1971, Shakespeare Dallas is a 501(c)(3) organization that is dedicated to providing North Texas residents with the opportunity to experience Shakespeare within a casual park setting. The organization also strives to provide cultural and educational programs to people of all ages. In addition to offering camps such as the one taking place at the Downtown Public Library, the organization hosts Shakespeare in the Park performances each year. This summer, the organization is performing Romeo and Juliet at the Samuell Grand Amphitheatre every Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday through July 25th as well as The Complete Works of William Shakespeare every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday through July 24th. All performances start at 8:15.
