Celebrate Summer Holidays at the Arboretum

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is a great place to take in beautiful sites, enjoy nature and spend time with the family. Every summer. The arboretum offers a variety of events for parents and their children to enjoy. Here’s a look at just a few of the great activities taking place at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden this summer.

Father’s Day Celebrations

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens will offer a variety of special events during Father’s Day weekend. On Saturday, June 20th, the arboretum will host a concert on the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage & Lawn. Performed by Frank Obregon, the performance will include songs from Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, Sinatra and other greats. The performance will take place from 1:00 to 2:30 pm.

On Father’s Day, which takes place on June 21st in 2015, the arboretum will host a craft activity that involves constructing and painting bird houses and flower pots. Hosted by Home Depot, the activity will take place at the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden from 9:00 am until noon. Space is limited and participants will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

Later the same day, the arboretum will show classic superhero cartoons in the air-conditioned Rosine Hall from 1:00 until 3:00 pm. Each clip lasts approximately 10 minutes and popcorn and snacks will be available at no charge.

Fourth of July Celebrations

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens will also offer several Fourth of July activities over the holiday weekend. On Thursday, July 2nd, the arboretum will host its final concert as part of the spring/summer Cool Thursdays Concert Series. The concert, which starts at 7:30 pm, will feature patriotic songs performed by the Dallas Winds. Gates for the event open at 6:00 pm.

From July 3rd through the 6th, the arboretum will offer free entry for members of the armed services. During these days, flags will be flown throughout the gardens as patriotic music is played.

Other Summer Fun

A number of different additional family-friendly activities and events will also take place at the arboretum throughout the summer. Some of these include:

  • June 7th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm: Debbie Leland book reading and signing at Pecan Grove
  • June 10th and June 24th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm: the doors to the gardens are opened at a reduced price and during special evening hours so photographers can take family photos, bridal portraits or photographs for hobby purposes.
  • June 13th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm: WFAA Family First Day featuring hand-on outdoor science experiments, puppet shows, theatrical performances and other activities.
  • July 24th from 7:30 to 9:30 pm: Garden Gigs full-grounds musical event featuring local artists and musicians.

Located at 8525 Garland Road, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens is open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Ticket prices are $15 for adults ages 13 through 64, $12 for seniors age 65 and over, $10 for children three through 12 and free for children two and younger. Admission to the Children’s Adventure Garden is $3 in addition to general admission and parking is $15 per vehicle. Members get into the arboretum and all gardens, including the Children’s Adventure Garden, for free. Parking is also free for members.
