If you are looking for something fun to do in North Texas this year, the Addison Summer Series may be just what you need. The annual Addison Summer Series is a family-friendly event that offers plenty of opportunity for residents to enjoy free live music and exciting 80’s movies at the lovely Beckert Park.

Enjoy Free Concerts at Beckert Park

As part of the Addison Summer Series, free live music will be offered every Saturday night through the rest of June and July, with the exception of the Fourth of July. The live concerts will fall under either the “Songwriter Saturdays” or “July Jazz” series, with this year’s remaining artists being:

  • June 20: Simone
  • June 27: Zach Balch
  • July 18: Joseph Vincelli
  • July 25: Karyna Micaela and the Guys

Concerts take place from 8:00 to 10:00 pm. Be sure to arrive early in order to get the spot that you want on the lawn.

Watch Free Movies at Beckert Park

In addition to offering free concerts, the Addison Summer Series also features free movies on its lawn and under the night sky. More formally referred to as “Cinema in the Circle,” this year’s event will feature the following shows:

  • August 1: Top Gun
  • August 8: Ghostbusters
  • August 15: The Goonies
  • August 22: ET
  • August 29: Back to the Future

Movies begin at around 8:30 pm, or as soon as it is dark enough to start the show.

For both the movies and the concerts, you are welcome to bring snacks and a blanket for added comfort. There are also plenty of venues located around the park where you can purchase a bite to eat.

Spending Time in and Around Beckert Park

Located at 5044 Addison Circle between Quorum Drive and the North Dallas Tollway in Addison, Texas, Beckert Park is nestled in the midst of high-rise buildings. A popular spot for office workers to relax at lunch time, the park is home to many sidewalk cafes and space to spread out and enjoy the sunshine. Visiting the courtyards of the surrounding high-rise buildings is a good way to pass the time until nightfall, as many of the courtyards offers hidden gardens and sculptures. The park itself features park benches, a lighted walkway, attractive landscaping, on-street parking and pet waste dispensers.

Blueprints at Addison Center is also located near to the park. Dedicated to the town on April 13, 2000, the four-story sculpture measures 140 feet across. Designed by landscape architect Michael Van Valkenburgh and artist Mel Chin, the final product required four years to complete and the help of hundreds of artists, architects, engineers and craftsmen.

Addison itself also has much to offer. Home to the busiest general aviation airport in the entire state, Addison hosts numerous events throughout the year and features nearly 200 restaurants. Some of the most popular events hosted by the city each year include the Fourth of July celebration, which takes place on July 3rd each year, and the Oktoberfest that takes place in September.
