Location:

Located adjacent to downtown Dallas, Lakewood is a residential neighborhood to the east offering the vitality of downtown in a quiet setting. The neighborhood touches the west shore of White Rock Lake, and is close to Bryan Place as well.

Parks:

White Rock Lake is the premier park in the Lakewood area. Over nine miles of hiking trails and bike paths surround the lake, and trails connect to downtown Dallas (Santa Fe) and north Dallas (White Rock Creek). Plans are in place for Katy Trail to connect the Turtle Creek, Park Cities and SMU areas to the lake by 2012

Local Events:

There is one event in particular that residents look forward to each year: the Lakewood Fourth of July Parade and Celebration. Float entries are only allowed by non-commercial entities, and a celebration follows the parade at Tokalon Park. Fireworks are set off from the Lakewood Country Club at the golf course in the evening.

Attractions and Shopping:

A prominent attraction is the renowned Lakewood Theatre. Here, visitors can see classic movies and attend comedy and music events. The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens are also nearby. There are a variety of restaurants and places to shop around the Lakewood Theatre, including wine shops, trendy and history eateries, and more.  Most restaurants and shops in the Lakewood area are original in this area, and are not chains or franchises.

Area History and Information:

Lakewood is comprised of old-fashioned style homes built between the 1900’s and 1950’s. The area is popular for outdoor enthusiasts who want convenient access to White Rock Lake, and those looking for the perks of city life but the peacefulness of a neighborhood setting. Lakewood Boulevard boasts a variety of early 1900’s mansions and estates, and were built in the Tudor or Mediterranean-Hollywood styles.
