When thinking of the Old West, it is nearly impossible to avoid conjuring up images of gunfights taking place in the middle of town. Since Texans enjoy embracing their cowboy roots, they frequently seek out opportunities to reenact the events that once took place years ago. Among these reenactments is the Summer Gunfight Show that takes place at Stockyards Station each year.

Watching a Gunfight at Stockyards Station

Typically starting on Memorial Day weekend and running through until Labor Day weekend, the Stockyard Stations Summer Gunfight shows take place at 130 E. Exchange Avenue in Fort Worth. The family-friendly show takes place at 11:45 and 4:15 every Saturday and Sunday at no cost to the public. While no bullets are really flying during the show, it gives bystanders a good idea of what it really must have looked like and felt like to experience a gunfight during the times of the Old West.

Creating Your Own Gunfighter Experience

If you can’t make it to one of the gunfight shows or if you want to experience for yourself what it is like to be a gunfighter, you might want to head over to the Stockyards Gunfighter at 140 E. Exchange Avenue. Here, you can participate in shooting scenarios that allow you to take aim at moving targets or even participate in your own quick draw shootout.

If you want to experience what it is like to be a cowboy without the shooting, Texas Cowboy Adventures may be what you are looking for instead. Located at 128 East Exchange Avenue, the attraction allows you to get on a horse and participate in a morning trail ride to round up cattle. If you are a little less adventurous, you can enjoy the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame located at the same address. The museum, which contains unique exhibits, pays tribute to more than 70 cowboys and cowgirls. The Exploratorium offers children’s interactive displays as well. The museum is open seven days a week and offers a western gift shop as well as the Jersey Lilly Old Time Photo Parlor.

Enjoying Other Attractions at the Stockyard

In addition to the aforementioned attractions, the Stockyards offer a number of other family-friendly attractions and events for you to enjoy. Among these are:

  • Stockyards Championship Rodeo
