When looking for a great community where you can find a job that you love, there are many factors that need to be taken into consideration. After all, it doesn’t matter if you are making $50,000 per year if the cost of living is extraordinarily high. For this reason, it is important to look for a place to live where you can make your dollars stretch further. According to a recent Forbes report, the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area is just the place to make this happen.

Dallas-Fort Worth Region Among Top Cities to Stretch Your Dollars

In order to determine the metro areas where a person’s paycheck will go the furthest, Forbes calculated the ration of salary to home value in various metro areas. The researchers found that the Dallas-Fort Worth region was the 11th best place to live if you want to stretch your dollars further. Furthermore, the researchers found that the median home value in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area was $157,900 while the median salary was $50,000.

Other Texas metro areas also made the list, with Houston coming in at number eight thanks to a median home value of $157,000 and a median salary of $52,000. San Antonio took the number 18 spot with a median home value of $147,600 and a median annual salary of $40,000.

The top ten areas included on the Forbes list of “Where Your Paycheck Will Go the Furthest” were:

  • Detroit (median home value of $114,000/median annual income of $45,000)
  • Memphis (median home value of $107,000/median annual income of $42,000)
  • Pittsburgh (median home value of $124,500/median annual income of $43,000)
  • Cleveland (median home value of $120,300/median annual income of $41,000)

According to the researchers, the Dallas-Fort Worth area is an up-and-coming region in terms of the true value of a paycheck. While the region offers many “big city” elements, it still manages to maintain the feel of a medium-sized town. It also offers plenty of housing options, with those regions that scored higher on the list offering ample homes to purchase rather than forcing many consumers to rent an apartment or studio space. With the elements currently in place, the researchers anticipate the Dallas-Fort Worth region moving further up the list in the near future.
