A recent report entitled the National Green Building Certified Homes Report found that 92 percent of people who own a “green” home would choose to do so again. Only three percent of those surveyed said they would not while five percent indicated they were not sure. With such overwhelming numbers in support of green construction, it is easy to see why so many are interested in moving in that direction with their homes.

Of course, building a green home or upgrading a green home is not necessarily an easy undertaking, particularly if you have no experience with construction or green technology. To help with this process, it is beneficial to find a professional or professionals who are Certified Green Professionals through the National Association of Home Builders.

What is a Certified Green Professional?

A Certified Green Professional, or CGP, may be a homebuilder, remodeler, designer, architect or other professional who has completed the necessary steps to receive the Certified Green Professional designation from the National Association of Home Builders. These professionals have been trained in how to choose products that are eco-friendly. They have also been trained in practices for increasing energy efficiency and conserving water both inside and outside of the home. These professionals have also been trained in preserving indoor environment quality and how to choose sustainable building products.

To become a Certified Green Professional, you have to complete coursework that is aligned with the ICC 700 National Green Building Standard.
