We’re now solidly into the Summer season for the kids. School is out, kids are home, and parents are… well, still working. Ok, you can’t win ’em all. Nonetheless, it’s the time of year for vacations, picnics, going to the lake, and keeping the kids preoccupied in general. As a public service (because we love you, parents everywhere), we’ve decided to do some poking around in the community to see what the kid-friendly hot spots are!

Where to start? How about free. Free is always good. Conveniently, the City of Fort Worth has a link on their “Things to Do” website that cuts straight to the point. The list features several museums and trails, so we’ll leave that link right HERE for you. For the sake of keeping this blog post to a reasonable length, we’re just features a few highlights. A bulk of the options under ‘free’ are outdoor and scenic, so have your walking shoes ready!

STOCKYARD STATION – Stockyard Station is a great place to let your kids dip their toes into the historical culture of Texas. There’s cattle, horses, and cowboys, as well as several great restaurants and many, many shops. The kids might not be as interested in the shops, but there’s a cattle drive twice daily that would get any kid excited! For a more educational experience, your family can even head for one of the historical tours of the area.

COWTOWN OPRY – Are your kids fans of country music? Give them a taste of live, genuine country music with the Cowtown Opry. This is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preservation of country music, and they put on a free show once a week!

MONNIG METEORITE GALLERY – Especially if you have an aspiring stronaut in the family, this is a great (indoor, air conditioned) destination to keep in mind. TCU’s meteorite gallery is always free to enter, and offers a display of other-worldly ‘rocks’.

Now, if you have some money to spare on your outings, your options open up even more. Speckled through the city are a huge variety of entertainment options. Again, the City of Fort Worth has this covered, and has an extensive list available online. It’s long, so we’re going to leave that link right HERE for you too.

SCAVENGER HUNT – That’s right, a scavenger hunt. How cool is that? This is basically a tour of the city, complete with puzzles and challenges for your family to work through and keep it exciting.

BURGER’S LAKE – With a name like that! Ok, it has nothing to do with burgers. This is a 30-acre park with a 1-acre spring-fed lake for swimming. Complete with beaches, shade trees, life guards, picnic spaces, diving boards, and a water slide, you can hardly find better spaces for the most basic Summer pleasures! Oh wait, there’s more? There’s a 25-foot trapeze?? I’m sold.

TRAMPOLINE PARK – This is an indoor world of trampolines… and I don’t even know what else to say. This looks super fun, and I think I need to plan a trip myself…

The other happening spots in and near the city include big, well known places like Six Flags, Main Event (bowling and arcade), several train-rides, and many, many kinds of museums for a dose of history and culture. Additionally, in all, Fort Worth boasts more than 200 parks and public spaces throughout the city. So pack up the kids, and get going. You live in an amazing city. Don’t live in the area yet? We can fix that. But in the meantime, it doesn’t hurt to visit!
