Ok, so maybe Fort Worth didn’t make the list for the Top 10 American Cities for Dog Ownership. Not to worry, Fort Worth. We know there are a lot of cities to compete with out there, and that our good city still has plenty of perks for the pooch owner.

So what can you do with your furry pal? For starters, if you can walk outside in Fort Worth, your pet can usually come along. You just need to have a leash, and make sure your dog is wearing his or her Rabies tag. So whether you’re after a leisurely stroll, or a brisk jog, leash up your pet when you go to hit the many trails around the city! There are sights to see and bushes to smell.

If off-leash fun is more your style, try checking out the Fort Woof Dog Park at Gateway Park, or the astonishing 10-acre North Z Boaz Community Park. Dog parks are different from standard parks in that they feature safe, fenced in areas (usually with some form of obstacle courses and water sources) for your pooch to stretch his or her legs without worrying about traffic and other hazards.

Getting hungry? It’s dangerous to leave your pet unattended in a vehicle, and often illegal, so lack of pet-friendly eating can be frustrating. Fortunately, Fort Worth restaurant owners hear you! There are a fair number of cafes, pubs, and restaurants that are happy to host your pooch while you grab a bite to eat. This article provided by Fort Worth Hole in the Wall, is packed with options for you to choose from. You may be surprised about a couple of them, as it includes the Baker Street Pub and the Black Rooster Bakery!

Not a pet owner yet? Not a problem. Whether you’re more a volunteer type than an owner type, or you just haven’t quite reached pet-owner stage in your life, Fort Worth has you covered there too. The city has two shelters that are dedicated to housing and finding new homes for homeless pets. One is the City of Fort Worth Animal Care and Control on Martin Street, and the other is the Humane Society of North Texas on Lancaster in downtown Fort Worth. Keep an eye on their websites. There’s always a critter looking for a new family or a volunteer needed, and it’s always a good time to consider joining Fort Worth’s pet-loving community!
